The LG Optimus (LG GT540), previously known as LG GT540 Swift[2], is a low-end smartphone manufactured by LG Electronics. The Optimus runs the 1.6 version of Android but was recently updated to Android 2.1 Eclair [3]. It was designed for first time smartphone users which its slogan "Optimal performance for first time smartphone users"[4] says. The phone provides four colours which are black, white, pink and silver. It was announced on April 27, 2010. It is now available worldwide. An official LG GT540 Android 2.1 (Eclair) update was released on 30th September 2010 for phones in the Baltic Region.[5]. The update will be released in different regions throughout the rest of 2010. [6].

Reception

The LG GT540 received a generally positive reception.
TechRadar commented that: "Given that it's free on £15 a month contracts, you don't really have the right to expect top notch features. And, taking that into consideration, we have to say that the LG Optimus GT540 is a nicely rounded phone." Although the reviewer added that "there's nothing outstanding about it, but the features fit together well enough."[7]
Electricpig.co.uk was slightly less enthusiastic. While the reviewer praised the phone's "surprisingly pleasant media skills", they bemoaned the resistive screen, and preferred the older LG GW620 in some respects.[8]

Features

The LG Optimus GT540 is an Android phone, so it can download free or paid apps and games.
